Privacy Policy
Grant is an on-device Android automation app. It helps you grant and revoke permissions for apps you choose, based on triggers you configure (Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, schedule, location area, calendar). Grant does not operate a cloud service and does not sell your data.
Information Grant accesses
Grant may access the following on your device to provide its features:
- Installed applications — you select which apps receive automated permission grants (
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGESsupports the app picker). - Bluetooth devices — triggers when bonded devices connect or disconnect.
- Wi‑Fi network name (SSID) — Wi‑Fi-based trigger rules.
- Device location — required by Android for Wi‑Fi SSID access; used to evaluate location-area trigger rules you configure; and used for location-permission automation you configure.
- Location areas you save — the coordinates, radius, and address text for each area are stored in your profile on the device.
- Calendar events — optional schedule blackout rules.
- Permission state — grant and revoke permissions via a local shell connection.
- Activity / diagnostic logs — in-app Insights and Activity log (stored locally).
- Profile backup files — export/import you initiate via the system file picker.
How Grant connects to your phone
Grant uses wireless debugging (Android Developer Options) over your local network or loopback. Pairing requires a one-time code you enter in the app. Shell commands apply permission changes only to apps you select, never to Grant itself.
Grant may use local mDNS discovery for pairing, Bluetooth broadcasts for trigger detection, and local ADB/shell — not third-party servers.
Maps and addresses
When you set up a location area, the editor loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap over the internet, and address or postal code lookup uses the Android geocoder built into your device. Those requests go to OpenStreetMap and to Android's own service — not to a Grant server, because Grant does not run one. Geofence matching (deciding whether you are inside an area) happens on your device.
What Grant does not do
- No user accounts or cloud sync.
- No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs (as shipped).
- No transmission of your profiles, logs, or app lists to developer servers.
- No sale or rental of personal data.
Data storage and retention
- Profiles, rules, settings, and logs are stored on your device.
- Backup export creates a local JSON file you choose where to save.
- Uninstalling Grant removes app data from your device (Grant sets
allowBackup=false).
Data sharing
Grant does not share your data with third parties except:
- You, when you export or share backup files, logs, or insights reports using Android share actions.
- System services required for Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, calendar, notifications, and foreground automation.
Your choices
- Disable automation or individual profiles in the app.
- Revoke permissions manually in Android Settings.
- Pause automation per profile.
- Export or delete local backup files.
- Uninstall the app.
Permissions
Grant requests permissions needed for automation (Bluetooth, location, calendar, notifications, etc.). You can deny optional permissions; related features may not work. See the in-app README for details.
WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS and shell-level changes require a successful wireless debugging session you establish — they are not granted silently at install time.
Google Play
Install, purchases, and updates are handled by Google Play under Google’s terms and privacy policy. Grant installs free with a 7-day trial, then needs a subscription or a lifetime purchase. Google Play processes payment and tells the app whether your Google account is entitled — Grant never sees your payment details, never creates an account, and contains no ad network or analytics SDK.
Children’s privacy
Grant is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International users
Grant processes data on your device. If you use Grant outside your country, data remains on your device unless you choose to export it.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
